Hi everyone

My DS is 10 years old and has aspergers. He is a terrific boy, but he just doesn't get the need to help around the home. He will do very little, I have convinced him to put his dirty clothes in the washing by the simple expedient of only washing clothes that are in the washing basket. But I can't convince him to do anything else, even the simple things like putting his dirty dishes in the kitchen (I'm not even asking him to put them in the dishwasher at the moment) he just ...

What do you do on school holidays with your kids?

Our older boy (who's nearly 13yrs) did a holiday program 2 days a week for the last three weeks of the Christmas Holidays - with Explore Traveller specifically for individuals with an intellectual disability. http://tinyurl.com/dhnev8 I was terrified as we had never had him in a holiday ...

Hi all

I am reading the book "A Friend Like Henry" - it's about a family with a little boy called Dale and to cut a long story short, he gets a puppy which he calls Henry. It's a true story. Having the dog helps the family "teach" Dale lots of things.

This led me to look for info about dogs for kids with Autism....and I found this beautiful site. I'm still looking but decided to share it with you straight away.

Hi all

Being the lazy mother that I am I felt my now 12 and 8 1/2 year olds (both are on the spectrum) could do more for themselves in the mornings.

Up to now I and my mum would put out the boy's clothes, shoes, make the beds, fold their PJs, etc and be telling them each step along the way from breakfast to getting on the bus. So I made a simple hand written schedule 1-8 steps that hey can read and follow. Less effort on my part - YAY!! They both seem to be enjoying the independence. ...
