DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) draft was launched in the USA 10th March 2010, it's set for release in 2013 - a long time to wait. This new edition of the DSM proposes Asperger's Disorder and PDD-NOS (Pervasive Developmental Disorder - Not Otherwise Specified) be subsumed into the exist...ing disorder: Autistic Disorder 299.00 (Autism Spectrum Disorder). THIS IS VERY BIG NEWS IN THE WORLD OF AUTISM and has HUGE implications for provision of services and funding at all levels. For a long time these diagnoses have been deemed LESS of a challenge for the individuals and families, those of us living it, know that is FAR FAR from the truth. Go to this website to view and you can also comment on the proposed changes. www.dsm5.org
