| Key Word Signing Workshop in Kalgoorlie, Tuesday 2nd March. FREE Presented by the Speech Pathology department from Population Health Key word signing is the use of "signs" to assist the development of communication skills in children. How does Key Word Signing assist communication? • Facilitate and accelerate verbal communication. • Assist in a child’s understanding of communication (use of sign can provide visual support to understand instructions, questions and conversation). • Support unintelligible or unclear speech. • Support expressive language skills (promote communication). • Assist in the development of eye contact, attention, and socialisation. • Provide an individual with a non-verbal means of communication. Who should come? Parents/caregivers Significant family members/friends of a child using Key Word Signing Teachers and education assistants Daycare workers Health staff working with children
