NEW COMMUNITY LIVING PLAN INITIATIVE UNDERWAY
The Disability Services Commission has released details of its Community Living Plan which aims to assist people with disabilities to live in their own homes within their local communities. The Community Living Plan will increase the range of community living opportunities for adults, with a focus on innovative and personalised local community support arrangements and alternatives to group home accommodation.
Over the past 12 months, a team has conducted wide-ranging research and public consultations resulting in the production of the Community Living Plan Concept Plan – Stage 1 report which is now available on the DSC website (
www.disability.wa.gov.au). The report includes: an Information Resource featuring local, national and international examples of innovative community living arrangements; an analysis of pathways and partnerships to community living; and a new framework for community living.
A Community Living Support Funding Strategy has been created to assist people with disabilities to live in their own homes in their local communities. The support arrangements will be built on community supports and may be complemented by some funding (up to $20,000 per annum). It will build on the strengths of people with disabilities and their families/networks and current planning and partnerships.
