School Holidays Empty
PostSubject: School Holidays   School Holidays Icon_minitimeSun Jul 12, 2009 1:47 pm

Hi everyone, how are the school holidays treating you?? I've been a bit poorly with a sore throat and a sore ankle so non-essential outings have been non-existent. And getting better.
Courtney's doing a total of 4 days on a (special needs specific) holiday program, with funding support from Commonwealth Carers Respite Centre and we have had our ACTIV carer once so far, and she took Dylan on an outing to the shopping centre to enjoy the library, Thomas The Tank Engine window shopping! and an icecream. Taking both of the boys out together on my own, especially during school holidays is too much for me so I need an extra carer or we stay home. Our kids do happily entertain themselves at home "most of the time". Sunny for the next few days so may try and get Dad to go out with us when he gets home from work.
Hope to hear from you soon

I hate school holidays.....sounds horrible doesn't it? And it's not that I don't love having my kids home...it's that I can't afford to take them anywhere.
Yes...you will say...how about the park? The beach?
Well actually, you probably won't say that, because you will all know, that a simple outing to a park is never simple with a child living with a Disability....with Autism..."time to go home now" is often a dreaded sentence. One followed with either tantrum or bribery.
And that one can live with....who cares....can we live with the looks from the ignorant? All those ignorant spoilt parents, the perfect with the perfect children....blah blah blah....
How often have we had to deal with those 'looks'....yes...you all know what I mean....
Those looks of..."can't she even control her child, ooh that child needs a firm hand"....again...blah blah..oh and blah.
Those parents who have never fled a shopping centre in tears because of those looks of disapproval cast down upon us by the 'perfect know it alls'.
Holidays....???
Hmmm....
I like our 'special school'....with our special children...and all us equally special parents who are relieved to have finally found somewhere where we are not the freaks.
Michelle.
